ABOUT THE AIRPORT
Evansville Regional Airport (EVV) is the primary commercial service airport serving southwestern Indiana and the greater tri-state region. Operated by the Evansville-Vanderburgh Airport Authority District, EVV connects the region to major domestic hubs through scheduled commercial airline service and supports a broad general and corporate aviation community. The Airport Authority is committed to delivering a safe, efficient, and welcoming travel experience for all passengers while advancing economic development through air service growth.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Marketing & Air Service Development leads the Airport Authority’s efforts to grow air service, build the EVV brand, and strengthen community and media relationships. This position is responsible for developing and executing air service development strategies, managing commercial marketing and advertising programs, directing public information and media relations, overseeing accessibility and community engagement initiatives, and supervising valet and volunteer operations. The Director serves as the Authority’s primary liaison to airlines and external stakeholders and reports directly to the Executive Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are representative of the work performed in this classification. Other duties may be assigned.
Air Service Development
- Develop, gain approval for, and execute long- and short-range air service development plans and strategies aligned with Authority goals.
- Conduct market research, route studies, and statistical analysis of industry data to identify air service opportunities and support strategic recommendations.
- Serve as the Airport Authority’s primary liaison to airlines, corporate/business partners, and regional transportation stakeholders — advocating for EVV and cultivating relationships that support service retention and expansion.
- Develop and implement airline recruitment marketing plans to target and secure new or expanded service.
- Monitor state, federal, and international aviation regulations, policy trends, and competitive developments affecting EVV air service.
- Represent EVV at industry seminars, conferences, and workshops to advance air service objectives and maintain industry relationships.
Marketing, Advertising & Brand
- Lead commercial marketing and brand development efforts, including advertising planning and placement across digital, print, radio, billboard, and other media.
- Manage and maintain the airport’s website and digital presence as part of an integrated marketing strategy.
- Plan, place, and manage traditional advertising (radio, billboard, print, digital) to promote EVV and drive passenger utilization.
- Develop visual aids, displays, and informational materials that communicate Airport Authority programs, services, and initiatives.
- Oversee airport brand consistency across all public-facing materials, signage, and communications.
Public Information, Media Relations & Social Media
- Serve as the Airport Authority’s primary point of contact for media; prepare news releases, statements, and talking points for Executive Director review and distribution.
- Manage the airport’s social media presence and digital content strategy, developing content calendars and engagement plans.
- Arrange and conduct news conferences and public announcements as needed.
- Monitor news, broadcast, and trade media for developments affecting airport operations, air service, or public perception.
- Maintain and update public-facing contact and mailing lists.
- Represent the Airport Authority at community and civic organization meetings, public events, and speaking engagements.
Accessibility & Community Programs
- Oversee the Accessibility Advisory Committee, coordinating stakeholder input and ensuring compliance with ADA and related requirements.
- Identify and implement operational and functional improvements to enhance accessibility for passengers with disabilities.
- Maintain strong relationships with the Chamber of Commerce, visitor information agencies, economic development organizations, and community partners.
- Educate community and business stakeholders on the economic impact and value of EVV air service.
- Arrange and conduct public tours of airport facilities to foster community engagement and support.
Operational Oversight
- Supervise and direct the work of airport valet staff, ensuring service quality and compliance with Authority standards.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for airport events and community programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Aviation Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in aviation, air service development, marketing, or a directly related field.
- Demonstrated experience in marketing, communications, or public affairs, including media relations and public information functions.
- Strong analytical skills and experience working with data and statistical reporting tools.
- Ability to pass a rigorous criminal history and background check to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
- Valid Indiana driver’s license required.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Direct experience in air service development, airline negotiation, or route development at a commercial service airport.
- Familiarity with USDOT Bureau of Transportation Statistics, OAG, Cirium, or comparable aviation data platforms.
- Experience managing marketing budgets and advertising campaigns across multiple channels.
- Established relationships with airline network planning or commercial teams.
- Experience working in a public authority, government agency, or similarly regulated environment.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms, social media analytics tools, and digital marketing platforms.
- Experience with design and content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) or Canva; familiarity with dynamic presentation platforms (Prezi, Visme, or similar) for airline, stakeholder, and public-facing pitches.
- Hands-on experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or comparable), social media management tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, or similar), and digital advertising platforms (Google Ads, Meta Business Suite) for campaign planning, execution, and performance reporting.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Industry Knowledge
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of air service development, market research, and aviation industry economics.
- Familiarity with airline industry economics, route profitability analysis, and competitive market positioning.
- Understanding of FAA, TSA, and applicable state and federal aviation regulations relevant to airport marketing and public information.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively — both orally and in writing — with elected officials, airline executives, media representatives, and the general public.
- Ability to prepare concise, professional correspondence, reports, presentations, and public information materials.
- Ability to represent the organization effectively in public forums, news conferences, and industry events.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships inside and outside the organization.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex aviation market data and prepare clear statistical reports and recommendations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); familiarity with website content management, social media platforms, and digital advertising tools.
- Ability to manage and maintain accurate databases, mailing lists, and digital records.
Judgment & Decision-Making
- Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment in situations involving competing priorities, limited resources, or public visibility.
- Ability to apply logical reasoning and creative problem-solving to develop strategic recommendations.
- Ability to plan and prioritize multiple concurrent projects accurately and on time.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position is primarily office-based with occasional local and out-of-state travel required for airline conferences, industry events, and airline meetings.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move about during a standard office workday.
- Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods.
- Occasionally lift and carry materials or event supplies up to 20 pounds.
- Work in a standard airport office environment; occasional airfield access may be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment within the airport terminal.
- Occasional work in public-facing areas of the terminal and airfield-adjacent spaces as required.
- Position requires attendance at community events, industry conferences, and media engagements outside standard business hours.
- A SIDA badge is required for airfield access; badge compliance is a condition of employment.
