FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 14, 2017

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Evansville Regional Airport (EVV) received two national awards for excellence in marketing, communications and customer service during Airports Council International-North America's (ACI-NA) 2017 Marketing and Communications Conference in St. Louis, Mo., at the awards gala held on November, 7, 2017.

EVV took top honors, winning first place in the Special Events category for its aviation-inspired Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) summer camp partnership with the Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville (cMoe). The multi-faceted camp partnership, now in its third year, has helped more than 150 area students (grades 1-7) foster a love for aviation, igniting interest in aviation and aeronautical careers. The event included time spent at EVV and Tri-State Aero, touring the operations, exploring the insides of airplanes and cockpits and interacting with pilots, including air show pilots from the 2016 and 2017 Shrinersfests. In addition, the initiative included a post-event video, further highlighting the event and its impact.

The collaborative STEM camp partnership event also scored EVV a second place, or honorable mention, award in the Community Education and Outreach category. "Evansville Regional Airport is honored to be recognized by ACI-NA and our industry peers for our outstanding achievements in marketing, special events and outreach," said Doug Joest, EVV Executive Director. "Our marketing and communications efforts embody hard work, dedication and strong community collaborations, and it is gratifying to be nationally recognized.”

EVV’s winning submissions were chosen from more than 300 entries in 19 categories submitted by airports of all sizes and budgets throughout the U.S. and Canada. A panel of more than 30 marketing and communications professionals judged the entries. The prestigious awards contest recognizes the quality of work, abundance of talent and creativity within the airport industry’s marketing and communications field. ACI awards are considered the highest marketing achievements an airport can receive in the industry.

Leslie Fella, EVV Director of Marketing and Air Service since Oct. 2015, currently manages the airport’s marketing and communications efforts, which includes advertising, social media platforms, digital marketing assets, creative, media relations and community partnership initiatives, in addition to customer experience and air service development.

Fella said there is great value in partnerships, and EVV continues to look at new, innovative ways to integrate partnering events into the airport’s marketing plan. “Synergized partnerships cultivate stronger brand loyalty and increased mindshare for all partners,” said Fella. “Collaboration results in win-win situations for all involved, and in this case the beneficiaries were area students, the children’s museum, the air show and its pilots and Tri-State Aero and EVV.”

In addition, EVV was one of three airports selected to present their winning entry on stage during the conference. Leslie Fella, EVV Director of Marketing and Air Service, took the stage with fellow marketing professionals from Miami International Airport and Edmonton International Airport, where she was given the opportunity to share more around the award-winning partnership event and play the video for hundreds of airport executives from the U.S. and Canada.

ACI-NA represents local, regional and state governing bodies that own and operate commercial airports in the United States and Canada. Its mission is to advocate policies and provide services that strengthen the ability of commercial airports to serve their passengers, customers and communities.
